چکیده

Background Amaranthus pollen grains are known to be highly allergenic and a potential cause of respiratory allergic diseases in many countries. Amaranthus palmeri pollen is an important allergenic source in Mexico; however in our country, there is not reported data about the prevalence of these pollens. The first allergenic profilin was identified from birch pollen allergen (Bet v 2) in 1991. Many studies have been described that patients who developed allergies against profilin from pollen commonly presented cross-reactivity against to vegetable food profilin, in particular to different fruits as nuts, melon, orange, and peach, or to vegetables as zucchini, celery, tomatoes and carrots or also latex. The aim of the study is to clone the profilin from A. palmeri pollen and obtain hypoallergenic profilin variant, this variant could be used as a therapeutic.

Major allergen from Amaranthus palmeri pollen is a profilin: Isolation, partial characterisation and IgE recognition.

BACKGROUND Pollens represent a rich source of proteins that are also potential elicitors of IgE-mediated pollen allergy. Sensitisation to panallergens could play an important role in diagnosis and specific immunotherapy, because these molecules are present in different plant pollens and plant foods and have marked structural similarity in different species. Profilins are one of the most common ...

Interspecific hybridization transfers a previously unknown glyphosate resistance mechanism in Amaranthus species

A previously unknown glyphosate resistance mechanism, amplification of the 5-enolpyruvyl shikimate-3-phosphate synthase gene, was recently reported in Amaranthus palmeri. This evolved mechanism could introgress to other weedy Amaranthus species through interspecific hybridization, representing an avenue for acquisition of a novel adaptive trait. The objective of this study was to evaluate the p...

Amaranthaceae pollens: review of an emerging allergy in the mediterranean area.

The Amaranthaceae family is composed of about 180 genera and 2500 species. These common weeds have become increasingly relevant as triggers of allergy in the last few years, as they are able to rapidly colonize salty and arid soils in extensive desert areas. The genera Chenopodium, Salsola, and Amaranthus are the major sources of pollinosis from the Amaranthaceae family in southern Europe, west...

Pollen Grain Size, Density, and Settling Velocity for Palmer Amaranth (Amaranthus palmeri )

Palmer amaranth is resistant to several herbicides, including glyphosate, and there is concern that the resistance traits can be transferred between spatially segregated populations via pollen movement. The objective of this study was to describe the physical properties of Palmer amaranth pollen, specifically size, density, and settling velocity (Vs), that influence pollen flight. The mean diam...

A hypoallergenic vaccine obtained by tail-to-head restructuring of timothy grass pollen profilin, Phl p 12, for the treatment of cross-sensitization to profilin.

Profilins are highly cross-reactive allergens in pollens and plant food. In a paradigmatic approach, the cDNA coding for timothy grass pollen profilin, Phl p 12, was used as a template to develop a new strategy for engineering an allergy vaccine with low IgE reactivity. Non-IgE-reactive fragments of Phl p 12 were identified by synthetic peptide chemistry and restructured (rs) as a new molecule,...
